Seperti dikutip detikINET dari Kotaku, Selasa (23/3/2010), Nintendo akan mengumumkan 3DS pada gelaran E3 di Los Angeles, Juni 2010. Perangkat yang diharapkan bisa tersedia sebelum Maret 2011 itu diharapkan bisa menampilkan efek tiga dimensi (3D) tanpa kacamata khusus.

Nintendo 3DS juga disebutkan akan bisa memainkan semua game DS maupun DSi yang sudah ada saat ini. Berikut adalah beberapa spekulasi seputar Nintendo 3DS yang dikutip detikINET dari Gizmodo, Selasa (23/3/2010):

* Akselerometer yang memungkinkan game berbasis gerakan seperti yang ada pada iPhone atau iPod Touch
* Layarnya akan memiliki resolusi yang cukup besar, diperkirakan akan mencapai 720p namun tidak 1080p
* Dua layar yang ada pada Nintendo 3DS akan digunakan juga sebagai satu layar besar
* Akses 3G lewat kartu SIM operator seluler untuk konten download
* Konten download mencakup buku elektronik, seperti yang kini ada pada DSi XL
